You cannot export a Facebook group. I want to say that in the first paragraph, because most migration guides bury it. There is no button that ships your members, your posts, and your history somewhere else. What there is instead is a manual playbook that works, that I have watched people run successfully, and that takes more patience than a single afternoon. Here it is, honestly.
I am not neutral. The home I will point you toward at the end is one you own, and I sell one of those. But the playbook below works no matter where you land, and the hard parts are hard regardless of the destination.
What Facebook actually lets you take.
Before you plan a move, know what is portable and what is not. The honest inventory is short.

This is the weakest export story of any platform in our export comparison. Plan around it rather than hoping a button appears.

Here is the part I am not going to dodge. Facebook Groups are free, frictionless, and the discovery is genuinely unmatched, because your audience is already on the platform and new members find you without you paying for it. Telling a creator to delete a working Facebook group would be terrible advice, and I am not giving it.
The goal is not to abandon Facebook. It is to stop being a tenant with everything you own stored inside someone else's building. For most communities the right answer is both. Keep the Facebook group as the top of your funnel, where discovery happens, and move the core, the paying members and the content worth keeping, somewhere you control.
The playbook, step by step.
Stand up the destination first. Build the new home before you announce anything, even a small version. Nothing kills a migration like sending members to a construction site.
Start collecting emails today. A pinned signup, a lead magnet, a simple “join our new home” link. Email is the one asset Facebook cannot revoke once you actually hold it, so start holding it now.
Use the join questions. New-member questions can ask for an email and point people straight at the new home. It is the one native Facebook feature that quietly builds your off-platform list.
Announce the move recurrently. Once is not an announcement, it is a post that scrolled away in an hour. Pin it, repeat it weekly, and put it in the group description and the welcome message.
Mirror your best content first. Recreate your handful of pinned resources and best threads in the new home, so it is worth visiting before anyone is asked to leave.
Give a reason that is about them. “Real courses, no algorithm hiding posts, everyone actually sees everything” moves more people than “please follow me over here.”
The hard part nobody warns you about.
Members do not move because you asked once. Expect to bring across a fraction on the first push and more over the following months. That is normal, not failure. The people who move first are your most engaged members, which is exactly the group worth keeping, so do not read a slow start as a dead one.
Run both homes in parallel for a while. Do not delete the Facebook group the day the new one launches. The group keeps feeding discovery while the owned home fills up, and you get to move on your own timeline instead of an algorithm's.
What about the years of old posts.
The honest answer is that you probably cannot bring them, and mostly you do not need to. The valuable part of a group is a small number of pinned resources and a few great threads, and you can recreate those by hand in an afternoon. The rest is conversation that already did its job. Grieve it for a second, then let it go. Nobody is scrolling three years back anyway.
Where to land.
There is a spectrum, and being straight about it matters more than selling you my end of it. You can rent a better platform like Skool or Circle, which gets you payments and courses quickly but keeps you a tenant with rent and rules. Or you can own the software outright, so no algorithm and no ban can ever move your community again.
Seedly Communities is the owned option. $399 once, your own database, your own Stripe account at 0% fees, your own domain. Members are unlimited, and the whole thing runs on infrastructure you control rather than a platform that can suspend it overnight. Bundled with Seedly CRM in one checkout it is $249 as the add-on, never on its own. The row-by-row is on the Facebook Groups comparison page.
The best day to move is a boring day when nothing is wrong. The worst is the morning your group is gone.
FAQ.
Not through any sanctioned feature. There is no member-email export, and scraper tools violate Meta's terms of service and can put your own account at risk. The practical fix is collecting emails yourself, off-platform, starting now.
Realistically months of running both homes in parallel, not a single weekend. You bring the most engaged members first and the rest gradually, on your own schedule. Anyone promising a one-click move is selling you something that does not exist.
Some, honestly, yes. Not everyone follows. But you keep the engaged core, you stop renting the relationship, and the members you keep are the ones who were ever going to pay or participate anyway. The full ownership case is in the mass-bans post.
Test the exit before you build anywhere for three more years. That is the one-sentence version of the export comparison. And when you are ready for a home no platform can move, the checkout is one page.
